California High School Proficiency Exam
California offers students who are at least 16 years old and have completed 10th
grade may opt to take the proficiency exam, which covers English-Language Arts and
Mathematics. Passing the test entitles students to the equivalent of a high school
diploma. With parents’ permission, a minor may then leave high school to pursue
higher education or employment.
Educational Data Systems designed and developed the CHSPE web site
(http://www.chspe.net/) on behalf of the California
Department of Education. The site offers a full-range of
exam related services -- including online registration, test dates and locations, and
downloadable test materials. EDS also constructed a secure extranet, allowing for
communication and data sharing with the testing sites.
In addition to the web site, EDS scores the exam and generates both paper and
web-based student reports.
